The concept is new to Celebrity Cruises, whose floating hotels carry up to 1,950 passengers. Last week, the line announced it has acquired a 100-passenger yacht, Celebrity Xpedition, that will take travelers on adventure vacations to the Galapagos Islands – minus the usual roughing-it part.
On June 11, the yacht, which has 47 ocean-view cabins and suites and a crew of 64, will launch seven- to 10-night journeys from Quito, Ecuador’s capital city.
The ecology of the area is fragile, and Celebrity President and COO Jack Williams has vowed that the company is committed to protecting the environment of the pristine islands, home to ancient tortoises, iguanas and sea lions.
