TWO TOO MANY ‘CSI’S FOR STAR

‘CSI” star William Petersen is mad again, about CBS spinning his show off into “CSI: Miami” and now “CSI: New York.”

“I just think that it went too fast,” Petersen tells HBO’s Bob Costas tomorrow. “There wasn’t enough time for us to really make, to possibly make, these shows different than our show.”

Petersen, appearing on “On the Record with Bob Costas,” compares CBS spinning off “CSI” to HBO scheduling shows featuring Costas’ colleagues, Bryant Gumbel and Jeremy Schaap, directly following Costas’ show.

“You know, it’s like if you have your show on at nine o’clock on Monday night and then Bryant Gumbel has one on at nine o’clock on Tuesday night and [sportscaster] Jeremy Schaap has one on at nine o’clock Wednesday,” he says.

“You know, at some point it is like, why am I doing this? It seems like everybody is doing it.”

Petersen has been extremely vocal in his displeasure over the “CSI” spinoffs, which began in 2002 with “CSI: Miami,” starring David Caruso.

Costas asks Petersen how much longer he thinks he wants to do the show.

“As long as we can keep making it better and different,” he says. “Now with the landscape sort of littered, it’s hard to make that choice.”
