WOMAN DIES IN QUEENS FIRE

A Queens woman who loved animals died of smoke inhalation yesterday after a fire ripped through her two-story home, fire officials said.

The woman, whose name was not released, died after a fire started in her kitchen at 11:43 p.m. at 85-33 98th Street in Woodhaven.

Quick-thinking neighbors tried to douse the first floor blaze withal fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived.

“A group of young guys next door busted the kitchen window open and attempted to stop the fire,” said neighbor Gus Kobleck.

An upstairs family escaped unharmed.

Two firefighters were taken to Jamaica Hospital with minor injuries and were listed in stable condition.
