Change of address on ‘Tap’

In keeping with this week’s baseball theme, Al Tapper — the musical theater composer/venture capitalist who is also a baseball and Hollywood memorabilia collector — has put his historic Lombardy Hotel penthouse apartment on the market for $4.99 million.

The full floor apartment — on 56th Street near Park Avenue — is a combo of three units, two of which were once rented by composer Richard Rodgers and writer Edna Ferber in the 1930s.

Tapper, who recently wrote the off-Broadway baseball musical “National Pastime,” has filled the apartment with memorabilia including a home plate that was in the old Yankee Stadium, a glove worn by the player who ended Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak in 1941 and a letter Babe Ruth wrote to his mistress. Tapper also owns a sweater worn by Gene Kelly in the movie “Singin’ in the Rain,” and a movie script with handwritten notes by Marilyn Monroe, along with a Mario Puzo letter to Marlon Brando that, incredibly, begins: “Dear Mr. Brando, I wrote a book called ‘The Godfather,’ which is having some success.”

The listing broker is Douglas Elliman’s Joy Wayne.
