Taking a page from the old Knicks, the Brooklyn Nets are headed to the Carolinas for training camp, holding it at Duke University.
Nets general manager Billy King is a former Duke player and Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov continues to spare no expense. The Nets will travel to Duke in Durham, N.C. on Sept. 30 following media day in Brooklyn, and conduct practices at the Michael W. Krzyzewski Center from Oct. 1-5.
The Knicks used to train at College of Charleston — a tradition started by former coach Pat Riley. But in recent years, they have trained at their Westchester facility as owner James Dolan put $1 billion into the new Garden and apparently was looking to cut expenses where he could.
“With many new players and a new staff, going on the road for training camp will offer a unique opportunity for our players to bond and focus solely on basketball as they prepare for this season.” King said in a statement. “Duke University offers first class basketball facilities and will provide an optimum training environment for our team.”
