NYU: ‘Brainiacs’ stiffed us!

It’s not smart to skip out on your bills, but that’s exactly what a scientific foundation for brain research has done, according to an NYU School of Medicine lawsuit.

The The New Jersey-based International Brain Research Foundation has allegedly failed to pay $173,487 of a $900,000 grant it pledged to support the research of German neurology professor Dr. Max Hilz into traumatic brain injury, NYU claims in court papers.

NYU publicly recognized the group’s funding at least 30 times in published works, it charges in a Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit.

By failing to pay up, the foundation is getting the glory without having to foot the bill, NYU alleges.

“It would be unjust and inequitable to allow IBRF to benefit in this manner,” according to court papers.

IBRF did not return a message seeking comment.
