The city’s best hope for avoiding tax hikes lies in the Governor’s Mansion, Mayor Bloomberg said Friday.
“The city’s gonna have to depend on the governor to hold things in check,” the mayor said on his weekly WOR radio show.
Bloomberg was referring both to Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio’s planned tax hike on the wealthiest New Yorkers — which requires Albany’s OK — and also potential union pressure on the state to raise taxes to fund retroactive raises.
All city tax rates, except for property taxes, have to get sign-offs from the state. City officials said Thursday there are no funds for retroactive raises for the city unions.
