Andy Samberg riffs on cop movie faves

Andy Samberg doesn’t just play a detective on TV — he’s got some strong opinions on his big-screen alter-egos (also referred to in old-time parlance as “dicks”).

Samberg, who stars as unpredictable Det. Jake Peralta in Fox’s freshman sitcom “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” appears as the “Wiseass of the Year” in the December issue of GQ magazine — where he riffs on his favorite “goofball” detectives of all time.

Samberg has a very short list of his all-time forensic faves — including Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley from “Beverly Hills Cop.”

(Like Samberg, Murphy is an alum of “Saturday Night Live.”)

“Eddie Murphy’s gotta be considered one of the best ever,” he tells GQ.

“Certainly with my character . . . there’s the rogue spirit of circumventing protocol that you have with Axel.”

Samberg’s list also includes Arnold Schwarzenegger’s John Kimble in “Kindergarten Cop” — “No one wants to see a movie called ‘Kindergarten Dick’” — and Jim Carrey’s Ace Ventura, who toplined “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.”

Samberg puts Carrey/Ace at the top of his list. “Of course. He’s the top-top,” Samberg says. “Because he’s a pet detective, which, in this world, is more needed than ever.

“I’ve watched that movie probably more than any movie on earth. Jim Carrey would make a good partner for Jake.”
