Syrian rebels use iPads to aim mortars

There’s an app for that!

Syrian rebels have been snapped using an iPad to aim mortars at enemy positions in Damascas.

Members of the “Ansar Dimachk” Brigade, which operates under the Free Syrian Army were snapped September 15, using the device to help fire a homemade mortar towards a battlefront in Jobar, a suburb of Damascus.

Twitter speculation suggests the device is being used to determine the angle of fire for the mortar, according to MarketWatch.

The Times of London reports that tech-savvy rebels are also using smart phones with mapping applications to aim mortars.

“It is something they have been using for a while,” said Eliot Higgins, a British-based weapons analyst.

Apple’s user agreement for the iPad includes a clause exonerating the company from any responsibility for its use as a weapon system, according to The Times.
