Harvey apologizes for ‘rough’ interview

It was Matt Harvey’s worst pitch of the year.

The injured Mets ace joined the “Dan Patrick Show” to talk about his decision to hold off on Tommy John surgery. But Harvey was only interested in promoting the wireless telecommunications company Qualcomm, and quickly cut off Patrick’s questions about the plan to rehab his elbow injury.

Harvey said he talked about those issues on Tuesday (with the New York media) and Patrick could schedule another interview to discuss his injury. After the interview ended, Patrick and his staff mocked Harvey and Qualcomm for the poorly planned, hard-to-follow shill.

In later interviews on the circuit Wednesday, Harvey seemed to lighten up and talked some baseball. He took to Twitter to apologize for bombing Patrick’s show.

In a second tweet apologizing for the radio dud, Harvey referred to the stir surrounding his visit Monday to Dr. James Andrews in Florida and announcement Tuesday that he would not have surgery immediately:

“Been an exhausting couple of days. Apologies to @DanPatrick and @Qualcomm.”
