Kerley, Coples return to Jets practice

The Jets look as if they will be healthier than they have been in weeks for Sunday’s game with the Bills.

Wide receiver/punt returner Jeremy Kerley was cleared to practice Wednesday after missing last week’s game with a concussion and outside linebacker Quinton Coples participated in team drills for the first time since he underwent right ankle surgery four weeks ago.

It sounds like Kerley definitely will play, but Coples’ status is up in the air. If he plays, it could be in a limited role.

“It’s hard to imagine that this guy would play after what, it’s been [four] weeks since he had surgery,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said. “The fact that he was out there, that would be great. Would it be full time? I don’t think so. That’s impressive that the kid was out there today, even in a limited capacity.”

Coples said he was cleared Monday by the doctors, but he has not been told if he will play.

“I feel good,” he said. “I’m just taking it one step at a time doing what I’m supposed to do, feeling more comfortable.”

The Jets did not have Kerley last week against the Patriots, and they missed him. He is a valuable weapon both as a slot receiver and a punt returner.

Kerley suffered a concussion against the Buccaneers on Sept. 8 when he was hit by several Tampa defenders, led by safety Mark Barron.

Without him last week, the Jets receivers had a rough day with a number of dropped passes.

No one will be suspended for the fight, according to a source.

Ryan on Bills defensive end Mario Williams, who had 4 ½ sacks last week against the Panthers: “God touched this guy, gave him unbelievable gifts. He’s got the height, the size, the length, the arms, the speed. That jumps out and he plays hard.”

RB Bilal Powell did not practice because of an illness. … Coples, NT Kenrick Ellis (back), WR Santonio Holmes (foot), DT Sheldon Richardson (shoulder) and TE Kellen Winslow (knee) were limited in practice.
