Revis, Schiano trying to clear air in Tampa

Darrelle Revis wants it known he has cleared the air with Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano, but something still stinks.

The All-Pro cornerback, who was traded by the Jets to Tampa Bay in the offseason, was reported just two weeks into the season to be unhappy with Schiano’s disciplinarian style and defensive schemes.

Bad look. So Tuesday afternoon, Revis tweeted: “Just to clear the smoke. I’m happy to be a Buccaneer & I’m happy to be a resident of Tampa.” Later, Andrea Kramer, who has conducted several in-depth interviews with Revis for the NFL Network about his comeback from knee surgery, had the scoop that Revis and Schiano met for 15 minutes on Tuesday “to clear air” and Revis had “no issues” with the former Rutgers coach.

The supposed smoke and air pollution stems from an earlier Fox Sports report saying Revis was chafing under Schiano’s “strict” style and was displeased about the lack of man coverage, his specialty, used in the Bucs defense.

The whole picture doesn’t exactly add up. If Revis is indeed a happy camper, what did he and Schiano discuss for so long in the middle of crucial game-week preparation?

Revis again denied there was a rift on Wednesday, suggesting the media was over-blowing the drama in Bucs-land.

“I thought those New York days was over,” Revis told Florida reporters.

Meanwhile, another newcomer to the Bucs secondary, safety Dashon Goldson, had a one-game suspension for a helmet-to-helmet hit overturned on appeal Wednesday to a record-tying $100,000 fine. Goldson was in trouble for striking the Saints’ Darren Sproles in Week 2 after previously being assessed a $30,000 fine for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland in the season opener.
