Ferguson fined over Jets-Patriots brawl

Jets tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson was fined $15,750 by the NFL for his role in the brawl at the end of the game against the Patriots last week, according to a source. Ferguson confirmed he had been fined, but not the amount of money.

Ferguson was ejected from the game with 38 seconds remaining for throwing a punch at Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard.

Center Nick Mangold and guard Willie Colon also are expected to be fined, but neither said they had heard from the league by Wednesday afternoon.

The brawl erupted after Mangold hit Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib out of bounds after Talib intercepted a Geno Smith pass. The Patriots took exception to the hit and began screaming at Mangold. Ferguson went over to help Mangold up and was bumped from behind by Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork, setting Ferguson off. Both teams pushed and shoved. Colon was ejected for making contact with an official.

No one will be suspended for the fight, according to a source.

On Wednesday, Talib addressed the diving tackle by Mangold that incited the fracas.

“I thought he kind of dove a little early,” Talib told ESPN. “He started to dive when I was inbounds and I kind of went out of bounds at the end of his dive. I didn’t see it as dirty. I haven’t seen it too many times, but I’m good. I ain’t worried about it.”
