Staples, Radioshack pull Amazon lockers

Staples and RadioShack have removed Amazon.com lockers from their stores after the partnership failed to meet expectations.

The retailers began testing a system last year in which Amazon shoppers could have a Web order delivered to a store and then pick it up for no extra cost. This allowed customers, especially urban apartment dwellers, to avoid having to be home to receive a package or risking a delivery being stolen.

Staples ended the test after it “didn’t meet the criteria we set up together,” said Demos Parneros, Staples president of North American stores and online. A RadioShack spokeswoman said it didn’t fit with company strategy.
