Lifetime’s solid ratings continue with ‘Gabby Douglas Story’

Lifetime’s movie “The Gabby Douglas Story” drew 3.8 million viewers on Saturday night, continuing the network’s run of solid ratings for its made-for-TV movies.

The biopic placed third behind Lifetime’s other recent movie premieres “Flowers in the Attic” (6.1 million viewers) and “Lizzie Borden Took an Ax” (4.4 million viewers), which both aired last month.

Among the key advertising demos, “Gabby Douglas” drew 1.5 million adults 18-49 and 1.4 million adults 25-54. It was also the most tweeted TV program of the night (excluding sports), according to Nielsen SocialGuide.

“The Gabby Douglas Story” recounted the true story of the Olympic gymnast who overcame the odds to become the first African American to win the individual all-around gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Regina King (“Southland”) and S. Epatha Merkerson (“Law & Order”) star as Douglas’ mom and grandmother, respectively, withImani Hakim and Sydney Mikayla portraying the young gymnast.

Following the movie, the one-hour documentary “Behind the Headlines: The Gabby Douglas Story” averaged 3 million viewers.
