‘Broadchurch’ star Tennant reprising role stateside

David Tennant, who stars as cop Alec Hardy on BBC America’s “Broadchurch,” will reprise the role in the show’s US version, premiering next year on Fox.

Tennant, who plays Hardy in his native Scottish brogue, will adopt an American accent for the Fox version, which — like its British predecessor — will be set in a small seaside town.

As in the UK version, which has been renewed for a second season, the first season of Fox’s “Broadchurch” will center around the murder of a young boy, with many of the town’s residents considered suspects.

Tennant, 42, is best-known to British TV fans as the Tenth Doctor in the BBC’s fabled series “Doctor Who,” which is celebrating its 50th anniversary next month.

There’s no word yet on who will play Tennant’s police partner on Fox.

That role was played on the first season of BBC America’s “Broadchurch” by British actress Olivia Colman.
