Indians fans wear redface to wild-card loss

These unwanted extras from a “Major League” sequel were done up in “redface” and feathers for the Indians’ wild-card game against the Rays on Wednesday night at Not So Progressive Field.

Halloween parties and ballparks: where some people still think it’s OK to paint racial caricatures on their faces.

The costume is a knockoff of Cleveland’s Chief Wahoo mascot, replete with the oversized smile and triangular eyeballs. The Indians have been moving away from the racialized imagery, using the red Cleveland “C” logo on more and more of their gear.

Perhaps karma intervened in the outcome of the one-game playoff round: The Rays blanked the Indians, 4-0.

There is a movement to have the NFL’s Redskins change their name, but owner Dan Snyder has opposed it.
