BMG injects $150M into NYC talent shop

Just call him See More Green.

Primary Wave’s boss, Larry Mestel, hit the jackpot last month when BMG spent $150 million for a controlling stake in his music publishing venture.

Primary Wave, which counts Cee Lo Green as chief creative officer, joined forces with BMG to create a new shop for artists looking to switch labels and those who aren’t signed to a traditional business.

Mestel is recruiting music biz talent agent Ira Sallen to be chief operating officer of the newly created BMG/Primary Wave.

The two are already hitting the streets talking to artists. Sallen joins from agency WTW Associates but had spent most of his career at BMG, where he helped bring in Simon Cowell. He’s also a close friend of Epic label chief L.A. Reid.

Speaking of human resources, music-industry phones were buzzing about Michele Anthony’s appointment as executive vice president at Universal Music Group.

Several execs asked On the Money what her post means for the turf currently occupied by Barry Weiss, chairman and CEO of Island Def Jam and Universal Republic.

Anthony’s role is described as “maximizing commercial and strategic opportunities across labels.”
