TV’s hottest office romances

Forensic anthropologist Temperance “Bones” Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and FBI special agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) finally tied the knot on Monday night’s episode of “Bones” (Fox), though not before a fire burned down their original church site.

Bones and Booth fell in love over more than eight seasons working together to identify victims and hunt down killers. In honor of their nuptials, we decided to look back at other TV office romances. Here are our picks for notable workplace couples – not all of whom made the walk down the aisle.

  1. 1. Moonlighting (ABC)

After private detectives David Addison (Bruce Willis) and Maddie Hayes (Cybill Shepherd) resolved their long-gestating sexual tension by  sleeping  together in Season Three, the ratings for the show plummeted, coining the term “‘Moonlighting’ curse” for subsequent shows that lost viewer interest after the main characters got together.

  2. 2. Cheers (NBC)

One of TV’s most famous will-they-won’t they couples, bartender Sam Malone (Ted Danson) and cocktail waitress Diane Chambers (Shelley Long) repeatedly dated and broke up over five seasons. On the day of their wedding in Season Five, Diane decides to leave Sam to start a career as a writer. The two were reunited and become re-engaged in the series finale only to break up again after realizing they aren’t meant to be together.

  3. 3. Grey’s Anatomy (ABC)

    PATRICK DEMPSEY, ELLEN POMPEO
    ABC/Rrichard Cartwright

Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) started off as a one-night stand the night before Meredith started her surgical internship only to discover Derek is an attending neurosurgeon at Seattle Grace hospital. Their on-again-off-again relationship survived the return of Derek’s wife (Kate Walsh), Derek rescuing Meredith from drowning, and a break up before getting engaged. When on their wedding day, Izzy Stevens (Katherine Heigl) discovers she has a second tumor, they let Izzy and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) marry instead, and tie the knot by writing their vows on a Post-It note. The couple finally legally married in at City Hall in Season 7 so they could adopt a daughter.

  4. 4. The Office (NBC)

Dunder Mifflin’s resident prankster Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) spent four seasons pining after receptionist  Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) – including watching her plan a wedding  to Roy – before the two finally got together. They married in Season Six at a Niagara Falls ceremony that, naturally, Michael Scott (Steve Carell) and the rest of the office crew attended.

  5. 5. Castle (ABC)

    NATHAN FILLION, STANA KATIC
    ABC/Ron Tom

Mystery novelist Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and NYPD detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic), known to fans as “Caskett,” have solved various unusual crimes together, eventually falling in love from their close working relationship. Castle finally proposed to Beckett at the end of Season Five.

  6. 6. House (Fox)

After a sexual encounter that proved to be a hallucination on the part of Vicodin-addicted Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), he finally starts a relationship with longtime love interest Dean of Medicine Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) in Season Seven, though she breaks it off after she suspects House has relapsed. In the Season Seven finale, House drives his car into her house and she resigns from the hospital, leaving the show.

  7. 7. Mad Men (AMC)

Don Draper (Jon Hamm) made the cliché move of proposing to his secretary Megan (Jessica Pare) at the end of Season Four, making her his second wife. Though he promoted her to junior copywriter at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, she leaves the agency to pursue acting. Despite being more honest with Megan than his ex-wife Betty, Don eventually returns to his philandering ways, and upsets Megan by telling her they are moving to California and having her quit her acting job, only to change his mind.

  8. 8. Glee (Fox)

McKinley High glee club director Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) proposed to prim guidance counselor Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) in Season Three, but she leaves him at the altar on their Valentine’s Day wedding in Season Four. He wins her back and the two finally get married in a small choir-room ceremony after the New Directions win Regionals in the season finale.
