Dine and dash … legally

Ever wanted to dash out after a meal without waiting for your check? Now you (legally) can — that is, if you dine or imbibe at select restaurants in the city using Dine & Dash, a payment-solutions app that launched last week.

It’s a simple concept: Customers tell their servers that they’ll pay with Dash (Dashwith.me), and they’ll be able to review their bill, and pay with their credit card, all within the app.

Co-founders Jeff McGregor, 25, and Gennady Spirin, 28, say the idea grew out of their frustration while they were having brunch at a restaurant on New Year’s Day nearly three years ago, and they found themselves unable to flag down their server to get their check.

Right now, the app is especially beneficial for busy bars — customers don’t have to wait for a bartender to close their tab; they can check out when they want.

“It does give them [his servers] much more time to serve cocktails and generate revenue,” says general manager James O’Hanlon of Agave NYC, a restaurant and tequila bar in the West Village.

Agave is one of 10 restaurants that have integrated Dine & Dash into their point-of-sale systems so far.
