Rangers’ Callahan: ‘This is where I want to be’

The Rangers wrapped up their franchise goaltender on Wednesday, but what about their Captain?

Ryan Callahan is one of three key Blueshirts unrestricted free agents without a contract.

“This is where I want to be, obviously,” he said following practice at the MSG Training Center on Wednesday, a short time after the Rangers officially announced they had agreed to a seven-year, $8.5 million per year contract extension with Henrik Lundqvist. “But like I said, I’m not going to air it out in the media about my contract and what’s going on. Just go about my business on the ice, and that stuff takes care of itself.”

Callahan, 28, declined to say if his agent is talking to the Rangers about an in-season deal, though he told The Post two days ago: “There is absolutely nothing going on.”

He also doesn’t think Lundqvist’s deal affects him, either.

“I don’t correlate the two, to be honest with you,” he said. “I’m just trying to play in the moment, worry about how I’m playing on the ice, and that other stuff will work itself out.”

Other key free agents include defensemen Dan Girardi, Anton Stralman and Derick Brassard.

Callahan said he was happy for Lundqvist.

“He’s paying for dinner, that’s for sure,” he joked. “He definitely deserves it. He’s the backbone of the team.”
