Fierce storm could slam Northeast with 10 inches of snow

Keep your shovels and rock salt ready.

Another fierce winter storm is heading toward the Northeast, and it could dump as much as 10 inches of snow on the tri-state area Wednesday evening into Thursday’s morning rush hour.

“A storm set on bringing heavy ice and snow to the interior South Tuesday and Wednesday will reach the Northeast Wednesday night and Thursday,” senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said on AccuWeather.com.

The storm is already causing headaches for travelers in the South, disrupting flights in Atlanta, and Dallas, and will likely lead to scores of cancellations and delays at Kennedy, La Guardia and Newark airports when it hits New York, he said.

Metro-North and the LIRR would also likely experience delays If the storm hits full force, heavy snow will fall on the I-95 corridor from Washington DC through New York to Boston.

If it veers out to sea, the precipitation would more likely be a mix of snow and freezing rain.

“Either way, it appears there will be a period of accumulating snow in the I-95 corridor, which will be enough to make for slippery roads and travel delays,” AccuWeather chief meteorologist Elliot Abrams said.

Accumulations, as usual, could be higher in the suburbs north and west of New York City than in the city itself.
