Trick-shot QB could start for Browns vs. Patriots

This could be the most interesting Browns game in years.

Quarterback Alex Tanney, mostly known for starring in a trick-shot video which has nearly four million views on YouTube, could make his first career start this Sunday at New England.

Cleveland quarterbacks Jason Campbell and Brandon Weeden are not yet cleared to practice following recent concussions. Tanney, who was signed by the Browns last week after spending the entire season on the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad, would be slated to start if Campbell is not cleared by Wednesday.

Tanney, 26, played at Division III Monmouth College (Ill.), where he set the NCAA all-time record with 157 career touchdown passes. He then went undrafted and spent 2012 with the Kansas City Chiefs on injured reserve, before being released in May.

With Browns receiver Josh Gordon coming off an NFL-record two straight games surpassing 200 yards receiving, Tanney could find some magic.

But it’ll be real hard to top the eye-popping throws that earned him Internet fame.
