NFL Now app to get huge push during Super Bowl

NFL fans next season will be able to take highlights, analysis and stories about their favorite teams with them wherever they go.

The league said Thursday it will roll out this summer a new mobile app, called NFL Now, that will provide fans free video highlights and stories on their tablets and smartphones.

The free app will get a huge coming out party on Super Bowl Sunday as the NFL will run two commercials during the big game.

“We are always looking for ways to better serve our fans, and NFL Now will do just that,” Commissioner Roger Goodell said during a Midtown Manhattan event.

For the fans, the app brings them more of the game — including team-produced content, original NFL content and fantasy sports video clips through any Internet-connected device, notably portables that a greater number of users are turning to for their information and entertainment.

One feature will allow fans to tailor the highlights they receive by giving clips a thumbs up or thumbs down.

For the NFL, the app continues to mine revenue gold from a red hot digital universe.

The basic app is free, but will come with a premium tier that will cost a to-be-announced monthly fee.

Other sports- and entertainment-focused outlets, like ESPN with its WatchESPN app, and the WWE, which The Post recently reported will soon launch its streaming WWE Network, are moving to exploit the added revenue streams that portable devices provide.

NFL Now is being offered through the league’s NFL Mobile with Verizon partnership, Microsoft’s Xbox and Yahoo!, which will carry it via its sports.
