MAX IN SI HUBBY SLAY

The Staten Island mom convicted of murdering her fire-marshal husband in his sleep was all smirks yesterday as a judge threw the book at her for the cold-blooded killing.

“Even today you’ve shown no remorse. You don’t care what you’ve done to your daughters, let alone your husband,” Supreme Court Justice Robert Collini scolded Janet Mercereau as he sentenced her to the maximum of 25 years to life for the December 2007 murder.

Prosecutors said the 5-foot-3, 250-pound widow wanted her husband, FDNY marshal Douglas Mercereau, out of the picture for two reasons — to collect on his pension and end his taunts about her weight. Mercereau contended that she was sleeping with earplugs in their girls’ room and didn’t hear a thing as three gunshots went into her husband’s head. Prosecutor Yolanda Rudich said Mercereau washed the murder weapon after the crime and left it near drawings that their daughters had made for their dad.
