Hood fiend is paralyzed

Fort Hood mass-murder suspect Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is paralyzed from the waist down, his lawyer said yesterday.

“It appears he won’t be able to walk in the future,” Hasan’s civilian lawyer, retired Army Lt. Col. John Galligan, said yesterday.

Hasan’s alleged 100-bullet shooting spree against unarmed troops inside a military facility last Thursday ended when he was shot by civilian police.

Doctors say Hasan, 39, may still recover but right now his condition is “extremely serious,” Galligan said.

Hasan has been conscious since Saturday and was formally charged on Thursday. Galligan met with him at the San Antonio military hospital after the charges were announced.

“He understands who I am. We can talk,” Galligan said. “But I was only there for an hour, and towards the end of the one-hour session, I could tell I was kind of pushing him in terms of my ability to keep him fresh and alert in a discussion with me.”
