‘Idol’ wannabe dies in crash

Jessika Baier, who auditioned last year for “American Idol,” was killed early yesterday in a Michigan car crash.

Baier, 21, died at the scene in Sylvan Township when her car, traveling west on I-94, left the road, traveled into the median, struck an embankment and was sent airborne, according to police.

The accident remains under investigation, according to local reports.

Baier, a morning show co-host on WKHM-FM in Jackson, Mich., auditioned for Season 8 of “Idol” in Puerto Rico and was seen on camera singing her version of Celine Dion’s “I Surrender.”

But she didn’t impress the “Idol” judges and was sent packing.

Baier’s on-camera singing, however, won her the DJ job at WKHM.

“We will all miss Jessika,” the station said on its Web site. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family today. She was a wonderful person who touched our lives.”

Baier now becomes the second “Idol” auditioner killed in a car accident this year, joining Alexis Cohen, who was killed by a drunk driver last July.
