Authorities say a toddler is hospitalized in critical condition after being pulled from a backyard swimming pool at a Staten Island home.
The boy was identified as 18-month-old Vincent Fougere. He was out of the pool before emergency responders arrived to the house on Brehaut Avenue on Saturday afternoon.
Officials say the boy was taken to Staten Island University Hospital.
Hospital spokeswoman Arleen Ryback tells the Staten Island Advance that the boy is in critical condition.
Neighbors say they heard screams from the backyard shortly after noon.
An official says that firefighters from a nearby firehouse ran to the house on foot after being notified about 12:20 p.m. The boy was at the hospital 11 minutes later.
