Young players sport awards at KBYO ceremony

“It’s hard not to give an award to a child!” said Kings Bay Youth Organization President Louis Spina. “They look forward to it because they worked hard for it.”

The chief didn’t disappoint his young charges, Saturday, when he presented each of the more than 200 pint-sized players — ages four to 12 — with trophies of participation during a ceremony for the Instructional, Challenger, Minors, Majors divisions at the ballfields on Coyle Street, between Shore Parkway and Voorhies Avenue.

Some lucky kids even received individual awards, such as Logan Auerbach, awarded kudos for Best Sportsmanship, and Stan Fredorique, Tarik Frelow, Taiquan Frelow and David Bonomo, each of whom received a Most Valuable Player award.

At Kings Bay, one of the rules of the game is allowing each child ample opportunity to participate, whether they are future superstars, or just in it for the fun of it, said Spina, whose group began as the Kings Bay Boys Club in 1956 and currently offers football, baseball, roller hockey, soccer and basketball programs, serving more than 2,000 children each year.
