Small plane makes emergency landing in New York state park

A small pilot plane crashed into sand dunes at Robert Moses State Park on Long Island late this afternoon but only the pilot was injured, officials said.

Authorities were alerted at 5:26 p.m. that the plane went down next to a walkway that leads from the parking lot to the beach, said State Park Police Chief Richard O’Donnell.

He said the pilot, who was the only person aboard, was rushed by police helicopter from the park, in Babylon, to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow. His condition and injuries were not immediately known.

No one was hurt at the park, which is a known for its five miles of ocean beach.
