Custodian sexually attacks deaf mute patient

A custodian sexually attacked a deaf and mute patient at Kings County Hospital in a brutal act, authorities revealed today.

Larry J. Taylor, 30, was identified by his victim following the Feb. 11 attack according to police.

The 28-year-old victim — who is mentally disabled, deaf and mute, according to law enforcement sources — was attacked while he was showering in room 5W of the Brooklyn hospital’s new psychiatric unit.

He reported the attack to family members and social workers, authorities said.

Detectives reviewed videotapes and checked sign-in sheets to determine who was on duty that day, and narrowed the possible suspects to Taylor, who had been with the hospital for 13 years.

Officers Brooklyn’s special victims unit arrested him yesterday at his home at 407 Decatur Avenue, Brooklyn.

Taylor was charged committing a criminal sexual act and sexual abuse.

Health and Hospitals Corporation spokeswoman Ana Marengo said, “We are aware of the serious allegations against the employee and are fully cooperating with police in their investigation.”

The attack was the latest black eye for the troubled psych ward at Kings Country.

In 2007, a lawsuit accused the unit of abusing and neglecting patients. A year later a shocking video surfaced, showing patient Esmin Green dying on a floor of the ward while a security guard ignored her.
