Cablevision up

Cablevision posted fourth-quarter sales that beat analysts’ esti mates after adding In ternet and phone cus tomers. Sales climbed 5 percent to $2.14 billion, compared with the $2.03 billion average analyst estimate. The company added 99,100 net new Internet, cable and phone customers in the quarter, offsetting a loss of 2,800 basic- cable users.

Burkle blues

Barnes & Noble Inc.’s largest outside share holder, Ronald Burkle, requested a meeting with directors after they rejected his re quest to waive a provi sion that would prevent him from acquiring a 37 percent stake.

KKR surprise

The buyout firm run by Henry Kravis said its fourth-quarter profit was $515.3 million. Sandler O’Neill & Part ners analysts Michael S. Kim had estimated profit of $216 million.

Feds probe

NIR Group, a Long Is land-based hedge fund, is being probed by fed eral authorities over whether it paid kick backs to outsiders in a scheme to inflate the value of its holdings, the Wall Street Journal reported on its Web site.
