GOTHAM

PALM BEACH

SANTA ANITA HANDICAP

Santa Anita, 10th race. Grade 1. Purse: $750,000. Mile-and-a-quarter, 4-year-olds and up. Post: 7:38 p.m.

LOWDOWN: Loup Breton is one of the few horses in the field proven at the distance, coming off a stretch-running score in the mile-and-a-quarter San Marcos. A grass horse, Loup Breton is switching to a synthetic surface for the first time, but the last two Breeders’ Cup Classics showed that Santa Anita’s Pro-Ride is kind to turf runners making the transition.

LAST WEEK: At Gulfstream, Sassy Image (3-1) was fifth in the Davona Dale. Changing Skies won The Very One paying $10, $6, $4. The Sham at Santa Anita was postponed because of rain.
