A night of fashion wonder — and blunders

Oscar’s leading ladies were tickled pink and shades of nude last night, turning the red carpet fashion parade into a sea of soft blushing rose and sexy flesh tones.

There was the good — Jennifer Lopez in gutsy iridescent Armani Privé and Demi Moore in sultry second-skin Versace. The bad — oh Charlize! — in Dior complete with two strategically placed rosettes. And the just plain ugly — a moment of silence for Zoe Saldana, clad in a puzzling pink and purple Givenchy number that looked better on Pandora.

Working spring’s watercolor trend, Rachel McAdams stunned in strapless Elie Saab in strokes of blue and gray while Maggie Gyllenhaal wowed in picture perfect Dries van Noten.

Not so lucky were fashion mainstays Sarah Jessica Parker (in a pale yellow Chanel nightgown that would have Carrie Bradshaw running for cover) and Penelope Cruz who wore Donna Karan three sizes too big — and should just know better. Better luck next time, ladies!

Deja view

Meow! We’ve got some copycats in the house. Channeling everyone from style icons to newly minted pop stars, we spotted some doppelgangers on this year’s red carpet.

Mo’Nique in cobalt Tadashi took a queue from Billie Holiday’s classic style and pinned an orchid in her hair.

Hot mama Nicole Richie kept it ’70s glam all the way in beaded Reem Acra and a high bun — and looked like a teeny tiny baby J. Lo who wore a similar look to the 2003 Oscars.

Amanda Seyfried, meanwhile, borrowed from an unlikely source for her galaxy get-up: Lady Gaga. She wore Armani Prive, the same designer Gaga wore to the Grammys this year.

Been there, bun that!

Nice buns! From chic and sexy to messy and mussed, starlets got the widely circulated hair memo at yesterday’s awards, turning up in a selection of updos ranging from Diane Kruger’s stiff braided number to SJP’s delectable pastry-sized confection and Penelope Cruz’s elegant style. Other well-topped heads included nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal and the lovely Rachel McAdams who accessorized the high hair and strapless dress with a gorgeous pair of statement earrings.
