This week’s couple: Couple of cliffhangers

Lorenzo and Karla are no strangers to taking risks: They’re both frequent rock climbers and adventure seekers. So when we set them up on a blind date at Indian hot spot Tamba, we expected them to rise to the occasion and go forth into the night with ease. Sure, the pair talked climbing and traveling, but did the 35-year-old musician and the 34-year-old designer find their footing right away, or was a casual dinner too pedestrian for this high-stakes couple?

He said:

My first impression of Karla was that she’s beautiful and very intelligent. We immediately started talking about our common passion of traveling and adventurous sports like rock climbing.

Despite the pleasantries of the evening, there didn’t seem to be a romantic spark between us. I think one of the reasons for this was that we were restricted to the dinner table, where any connection we might have had was limited to the intellectual sphere.

I think I’d like to see Karla again, perhaps in a more comfortable setting — like climbing together. I offered her a ride home after the date, but she declined, and suddenly we were parting ways without exchanging numbers. Our goodbye was somewhat cold and formal, but I thought Karla was a sweet woman.

She said:

When Lorenzo walked in I was very impressed with his friendliness. He has a great smile and was very confident. Right off the bat the conversation flowed. We talked about how we both love to travel. I’m planning a trip to Thailand and Lorenzo was recently there. We also both rock climb and he ice climbs, which is something I’m very interested in trying.

By the end of the night we realized we’d been talking for over two hours! Lorenzo kindly offered to drive me home, but it was snowing and I didn’t want him to go out of his way. Our goodbye was a little rushed and we didn’t even get to exchange numbers, but I had a very nice time and would be happy to see him again for some climbing.
