Three stars of the day at the Big East Tournament

JASON CLARK

Sophomore, G, Georgetown

He tied for team-high scoring honors with 16 points and added six rebounds and three steals in yesterday’s second-round 69-49 win over South Florida. His 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range spread the floor. He had been 3-of-12 in his last two games and 10-of-32 in his last seven.

“Everyone’s contribution is key, and Jason made some shots today,” Hoyas coach John Thompson III said. “That’s not abnormal. He’s a very good shooter. I think our guys did a good job of finding him the ball and took the right shots. But I think our guys did a good job of helping each other do that.”

REPORT: P.J. TO OREGON?

LUKE HARANGODY

Senior, F, Notre Dame

Not expected to play, he came off the bench to score 20 points and 10 rebounds as Notre Dame shut down Seton Halls high-octane offense in last night’s 68-56 victory.

Harangody, the nations second-leading scorer, missed five games with a badly bruised right knee before returning to play 11 minutes Saturday at Marquette. But he looked more like himself in this one.

LAZAR HAYWARD

Senior, F, Marquette

Hayward had 20 points, nine rebounds and three steals. He spotted his team a double-digit halftime lead and they needed all of it to hold on for a 57-55 win over St. John’s, putting coach Norm Roberts on the hot seat. Hayward was the go-to guy on a call with 1:10 left that ended up as David Cubillan’s go-ahead 3.

“In the second half we got too stagnant and too passive. We weren’t really aggressive like we were in the first half, and we have to do a better job attacking instead of being passive,” Hayward said. “We have to stop digging those holes for ourselves and go play defense the entire game like we did in the first half.”
