Christiane Amanpour will become the new anchor of ABC News’ “This Week” in August.
Amanpour will leave CNN, her home for the last 20 years, at the end of next month.
Amanpour’s move to ABC, widely rumored, became official yesterday. “More than once over the years we’ve talked with Christiane about her joining us in one position or another,” ABC news chief David Westin said in an e-mail to staffers. “Until now, it wasn’t the right time or the right fit.”
Amanpour, one of CNN’s most visible personalities, replaces George Stephanopoulos, who left “This Week” to co-host “Good Morning America.”
Jake Tapper will continue hosting “This Week” until Amanpour’s arrival.
