Mark Sanchez among NFL’s most hated by public

Mark Sanchez isn’t going to play a down this season and he’ still one of the most hated players in the league.

The injured Jets quarterback came in as the fifth-most disliked player in the NFL according to E-Poll, which surveyed 1,100 people and was published by Forbes. Eagles quarterback Michael Vick was No. 1 in the poll at 53 percent disliked, Chargers linebacker Manti Te’o was second with 48 percent, Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh came in third at 43 percent, followed by Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Sanchez at 40 percent.

Vick was involved in a dog-fighting ring that landed him in prison, Te’o became famous for a fake girlfriend controversy during his senior year at Notre Dame, Suh has the reputation of being one of the dirtiest players in the league and Roethlisberger was accused of sexual assault.

Sanchez has not been involved in anything as notorious as these players have, but his play spiraled downward over the past two seasons and his off-the-field habits landed him on the gossip pages as much as the sports pages.

The fifth-year quarterback will miss the entire season after recently undergoing shoulder surgery to repair an injury suffered in a preseason game against the Giants. With rookie Geno Smith emerging and Sanchez owed a hefty salary for next year, it’s a foregone conclusion he has played his final snap for the Jets.
