HERE COMES SANTA PAWS – STOCKING STUFFERS FOR THE REST OF US

* PetSmart has a whole heap of plush toys your dog will drool over – literally. Some are so soft and fuzzy they are good enough to be people toys, so for those pooches who only demand the best, go to http://www.petsmart.com to order or for locations. Prices start at just $2.95. Check out the Fido fashion, too, from $9.99.

* For the true animal lover, a gift from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) will mean more to them than off the peg goodies. Check out their collection of animal friendly merchants at http://www.PETAmall.com. There’s a wide selection of goods, from a humane mouse catcher (you release it back out) at $10 to a noholds- barred No Hunting sign ($14) for the country estate.

* Their 2005 Calendar ($8.95) features some heart-breaking – though ultimately heartwarming – rescued animals who have fallen on their paws (or hooves, or whatever.)

And a must-have for the cruelty conscious: the Shopping Guide For Consumers, endorsed by big bunny lover Pamela Anderson ($8.95).

Between five to 50 per cent of the sales go to PETA.

* This year’s must have: the Reader’s Digest Quick and Easy Quilting Set ($30). Quilting is to 2004 what knitting was to 2003, so get your creative giftee a start on the new craze.

The set includes two books – one to teach the techniques, the other to encourage practice and self-expression – plus all the tools and materials it takes to get started.

There are also 16 diverse quilting projects, including a Christmas table runner, a flying geese backpack, and a patchwork teddy bear (so guess what you’ll be getting for Christmas next year!) From retail and online bookstores.
