CC: James Brown, Fox sportscaster
Dear David,
Emceeing the Eagles’ NFC championship postgame celebration, Terry Bradshaw overdid it with his look-at-me antics. Thankfully, though, he found a sliver of time to ask Philly coach Andy Reid whether Terrell Owens would play in the Super Bowl.
Reid said, “I have a feeling he will.” But the Memo wanted to know Owens’ stance.
Standing in the background, Owens looked like an extra desiring a starring role. But since Bradshaw lacks basic journalist instincts, Owens was never asked a question.
Bradshaw might be Fox Sports’ biggest celebrity, but the trophy presentation should not be about Bradshaw. Its focus should be the victors. Over on CBS, Greg Gumbel handled the AFC trophy presentation smoothly, allowing the Pats to be the stars.
The Super Bowl trophy presentation doesn’t need to be a formal affair, but it would be better if James Brown handled the chore. With Pam Oliver taking care of the losing coach, reporter Chris Myers could shift to Brown’s host wrap-up chair.
