Rivera named AL Comeback Player of Year

Add one more going-away present to Mariano Rivera’s final season of accolades.

Rivera was named the American League Comeback Player of the Year, a distinction awarded by MLB.com beat writers.

The legendary closer, in his last tour with the Yankees before retiring at the age of 43, went 6-2 with a 2.11 ERA and 44 saves and was named MVP of the All-Star Game.

His 2012 campaign ended in early May when he tore the ACL in his right knee while shagging fly balls in Kansas City.

Francisco Liriano of the Pirates was named the NL winner.
