CHELSEA HITS UTAH SLOPES FOR 19TH B’DAY

The First Family was heading for Utah last night to celebrate Chelsea Clinton’s 19th birthday in a winter wonderland.

The Clintons are staying at Tinseltown titan Jeffrey Katzenberg’s super-luxurious ski chalet in Deer Valley, Utah, one of the world’s swankiest resort communities.

Chelsea, a Stanford University sophomore, spent her last birthday at Katzenberg’s home with her parents and enjoyed it so much she decided to return. Her birthday was yesterday.

“It is the poshest ski resort there is,” said travel writer Eleanor Berman.

“In terms of conditions, in terms of everything, it is just perfect. Not a bump in the snow.”

Katzenberg’s log mansion sits in a gated community on Bald Eagle Mountain, just off a trail named “Success.” Quite appropriate considering that houses on the slope run up to $6 million.

Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, sometimes stay nearby at the home of Martin Granoff, a Saddle River, N.J., apparel mogul and Democratic Party donor.

Skiing magazine considers Deer Valley “the creme de la creme of ski destinations.”

It had better be – a full-day lift ticket costs $57 for adults, and only 5,000 skiers at a time are allowed.

Katzenberg and his guests don’t have to wait in line; they simply call a guard and have lift tickets delivered to their door.

Among the resort’s other perks:

006 . 0003.05*Attendants meet skiers in the parking lot and help them unload their sports utility vehicles.

*”Ski valets” carry guests’ skis to the top of the trails.

*All chair lifts are padded and equipped with tissue dispensers.

*Food is served on china – even at the least expensive cafeteria. And the menu includes goat cheese, calamata olives and roast garlic.

*The trails are highly manicured – more than half are groomed nightly.

The Clintons will be in Utah until Tuesday.

The ski vacation caps a West Coast swing by the president that included stops in Arizona and California. 006 . 0024.01 -00002
