MAPP & SATTERFIELD MCDONALD’S ALL-STARS

Proving once again that New York City is the nation’s high school basketball capital, the McDonald’s All-American Game yesterday selected CHSAA senior stars Majestic Mapp and Kenny Satterfield to play in the prestigious all-star event March 24 in Ames, Iowa.

”I’m excited,” said Mapp, a 6-1 point guard who averages 16 points and seven assists for St. Raymond’s of The Bronx. ”All the great players played in that game. I feel every year I’ve improved. I do feel I deserve to make the team.”

Mapp, who carries a B grade-point average, has signed with Virginia for next season

For St. Raymond’s, it’s the school’s first player to make the game since Kareem Reid was invited in ’93.

”I’m very happy,” St. Ray’s coach Gary DeCesare said. ”He’s one of the best point guards in the country.”

Mapp also was invited to the Magic Johnson Roundball Classic, another All-American game, April 3 in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Joining Mapp at the McDonald’s will be Satterfield, a 6-1 guard from Rice in Manhattan. Satterfield, who has signed with Cincinnati, is averaging 23 points.
