This week’s couple: Dressed to impress

There are no dress codes on a first date, so when Nick showed up at the Algerian-French fusion restaurant 1200 Miles in the Flatiron District to meet Rebecca, he didn’t know why she wasn’t initially into him after the once-over. But Nick ended up being saved by his tattoo. Read on to see how Rebecca went from fearing the date would end in five minutes, to her and Nick being the last two people to leave the restaurant.

He said:

All I knew about Rebecca was her name. In the Internet age, you go out with strangers, but you know superficial information about them. Here, I knew nothing, and I was 15 minutes late.

Rebecca was very nice about it, and she made me feel at ease. She’s a brunette with gorgeous eyes, which I like.

I liked 1200 Miles, and I was impressed Rebecca ordered the Casablanca — the best drink on the menu, so she obviously has good taste.

She is also smart, but we don’t agree on all the issues. She’s an Independent, and I’m a Democrat. Also, she likes dogs, I like cats.

But we agreed on dessert, splitting the chocolate cake. We walked a few blocks together after we left and agreed it was a fun night. I want to see her again.

She said:

I was five minutes late, so I was happy Nick arrived after me. He wore a leather jacket and tight pants, and my reaction was not positive. The last time a guy showed up in a similar outfit, the date lasted five minutes.

I was pleasantly surprised. We had a lot more in common than I thought. He has a tattoo of George Orwell’s signature on his arm. I’m not a fan of tattoos, but the name of an author is a good one to have.

The food at 1200 Miles was really good. I’m a vegetarian, so I particularly loved the artichoke and asparagus salad.

At the end of the night, we realized we were the last ones left! We shared the flourless chocolate cake to end the date on a sweet note and exchanged numbers.
