PEDAL PUSHERS – 30,000 CYCLISTS TAKE TO STREETS

Here’s the wheel deal. More than 30,000 people took to the streets yesterday for the 29th annual Five Boro Bike Tour – a 42-mile, traffic-free, recreational ride throughout the city.

“The weather was great. The tour was just excellent,” said tour director Steven Taylor of Bike New York, the nonprofit group that produced yesterday’s event, which is the largest cycling tour in the U.S.

“From a tour standpoint, it went very smoothly,” Taylor added, saying he hadn’t heard of any serious injury or delay on the route – which began at Church and Franklin streets in Manhattan at 8 a.m. and ended at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal around 5:30 p.m.
