MANIC movie madman Jack Black is bringing his act to TV.
Black’s new VH1 show, “Acceptable.tv,” will be in Manhattan today and tomorrow looking for people to participate in the show – a new sketch-comedy offering with a twist.
The show, which premieres tomorrow on VH1 (10 p.m.), will work like this:
Each week, six “pilots,” varying in length from three to five minutes, will air on the show. Five of the pilots will star members of the show’s cast, a group of performers calling themselves the “Acceptable.TV ensemble.”
One pilot will be created by Web users.
After they’re shown, each pilot will be posted on the show’s Web site (acceptable.tv, which also launches tomorrow night) for about three days.
Users will then vote for the two pilots they want to see more of as the show continues.
Then, the following Friday, those two pilots will air their additional episodes along with four new pilots – starting the cycle all over again.
Black, who might appear in the show (it hasn’t been decided yet), is serving as its executive producer along with Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab.
The show isn’t an uncommon programming concept for VH1, which has aired three seasons of “Web Junk 20.”
The new show is an outgrowth of Harmon and Schrab’s Channel 101, a Web site featuring digital shorts that’s considered a precursor to youtube.com.
