YANKEES SCORE 10 IN 7TH

DETROIT — Phil Hughes went six innings in his first start and left fielder Josh Anderson’s error led to a 10-run seventh inning as the Yankees ended a four-game losing streak with an 11-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.

Hughes (1-0), who was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and Edwin Jackson dueled through six innings. Hughes, who replaced the injured Chien-Ming Wang in the rotation, allowed two hits, while Jackson gave up four.

Nick Swisher led off the seventh against Ryan Perry (0-1) with a single and Melky Cabrera walked. After a sacrifice, pinch-hitter Jorge Posada lifted what looked like a routine fly ball to left.

Anderson held back on the ball, positioning himself for a throw, but he misjudged the trajectory and tried to make a hurried, low catch. He missed the ball for a two-base, two-run error.

Derek Jeter walked and Johnny Damon blooped an RBI single to center off Nate Robertson. Mark Teixeira popped out, but Hideki Matsui and Robinson Cano made it 5-0 with RBI singles.

Swisher walked to load the bases, and Cabrera walked for the second time in the inning to force in the sixth run. Jose Molina hit a grand slam on the next pitch.

The Tigers needed 56 pitches to get three outs in the inning, and threw exactly 200 in the game.

Swisher led off the ninth with a long homer to right-center.

The Tigers loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth, but Anderson grounded out.

Matsui tripled with two outs in the sixth, his long fly to right-center bouncing off Curtis Granderson’s glove as he and Magglio Ordonez reached for the ball. Jackson struck out Cano with his 117th and final pitch.
