Court interpreter attacked, robbed in three-man ambush

A Manhattan Criminal Court interpreter was attacked and robbed by three men who ambushed her from behind as she headed home from work early Thursday morning.

Margarita Martinez, 59, was walking westbound on White Street, near Lafayette Street, around 1:10 a.m., Thursday, when three men charged up to her and began repeatedly punching her in the head, according to police.

One of the attackers pulled a knife on the court employee and demanded her wallet and cell phone, cops said. The trio snatched $128 in cash, a Metro PCS LG cellphone and a debit card before fleeing, according to police.

Martinez suffered cuts and bruises that were not believed to be life-threatening, cops said. She was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she was treated and release, authorities said.

Cops arrested David Young, 32, of Staten Island, and charged him with robbery. He has at least one previous arrest for felony assault, according to law enforcement sources. His accomplices have not yet been charged, police said.
