Demand for US durable goods unexpectedly fell 2.4 percent in August — the most since January — and sales of new homes rose less than forecast.

Citi suit

Citigroup filed a federal lawsuit against Morgan Stanley, claiming its rival failed to pay $245 million due under a credit default swap agreement. After the unit defaulted last year, owing Citibank $366 million, Morgan Stanley refused to pay $245 million due under the swap, the suit says.

Lehman case

The eight biggest banks in the US filed more than $20.8 billion of claims in Lehman Brothers Holdings’ bankruptcy case. US Bancorp’s total was more than $12.4 billion BofA is seeking to recover more than $5.2 billion. Morgan Stanley, which converted into a bank holding company less than a week after Lehman collapsed, is seeking at least $3 billion.

AT&T v. Google

AT&T told federal regulators that Google’s voice application improperly blocks telephone calls to some rural areas, and asked for an order to halt the practice.

Unilever

Unilever said it will buy Sara Lee’s personal care business for 1.28 billion euros ($1.88 billion).

Twitter funding

Twitter said it closed a new round of funding with five investors, including mutual-fund giant T. Rowe Price and private-equity firm Insight Venture Partners. Twitter did not dis close the amount raised, or the valuation of Twitter that it was based on.
