Kate Gosselin: Jon took $230,000 from joint account

Jon Gosselin swiped $230,000 from the joint checking account he shares with his soon-to-be ex-wife, Kate Gosselin alleged on TV today.

“He took $230,000 of the $231,000 we had,” Kate said on “The Today Show” today. “I have a stack of bills. The last thing I wanted was to do this show and end up not being able to pay our bills.”

Kate’s attorney filed papers in a Pennsylvania court this morning saying that Jon took the money, celebrity Web site TMZ.com reported.

Kate admitted that earlier this year she took $100,000 out of the account for safe keeping, but replaced it because of a separation agreement forbidding them from taking money from the account without authorization from the other person.

“I removed it to keep it safe,” she told Meredith Vieira. “I had taken $100,000 and put it aside safely so I could buy my kids food if needed.”

Kate also said she can’t sleep and she’s worried about her former husband, who no longer shares billing in the title of the pair’s TLC show, now called “Kate Plus Eight.”

“He has gone way far off the trail. … Obviously, I am very upset. I can’t sleep at night. I can’t pay my bills. I think he’s receiving bad advice. I think he’s making bad decisions.”

Kate also said, despite claims Jon made last week on CNN’s “Larry King Live,” that the children enjoy having their day-to-day lives filmed by TLC’s crews.

“There was wailing and sobbing [when they were told filming would stop for 90 days],” she said, adding that the children “love our crew. They are angry.”

Jon requested the hiatus so he could “forge a friendship” with Kate.
